Report from Google Hash Code 2018

Last Thursday, we were hosts of a hub for Google Hash Code 2018 competition. Although the number of participants exceeded our expectations (about 120 people!), it went well without any organizational problems. Nobody ran out of electricity and wifi was working fine. Also, everyone received a piece of delicious pizza, for which we would like to thank the Poznań branch of PTI.

New GHOST website!

We are happy to announce that our new website has been launched! Previously, all information about our meetings were posted on our tutor’s website: http://www.cs.put.poznan.pl/mlango/ghost. However, in connection with the transformation of our group into a full-fledged scientific circle, we decided to create a separate website and fanpage on facebook.

GHOST Special Session – Entity Resolution for Cross-Device Identification

The second GHOST Special Session entitled “Entity Resolution for Cross-Device Identification” took place on 13th December. It was held by Mateusz Jukiewicz and Jakub Wąsikowski, both working for Roq.ad as Data Scientists. Roq.ad is a Berlin-based startup whose goal is to develop a cross-device advertising mechanism which will meet high privacy standards. During the meeting, novel machine learning techniques for entity resolution were presented, as well as their applications to the cross-device identification problem. Mateusz and Jakub also shared with us some practical tips for running our own machine learning projects – thank you!

GHOST Special Session – ML for Web Applications Security

On 20th November we had our first GHOST Special Session. The topic was Machine Learning Methods for Web Applications Security. It was held by Andrzej Prałat, a Machine Learning Engineer at Grey Wizard. The company he works for is a Poznań-based startup which uses artificial intelligence to quickly detect and respond to the new kinds of cyber threats. Before starting his adventure with cybersecurity, he took part in numerous data science projects and sucessfully participated in many machine learning competitions.
During the session, we learnt about novel machine learning methods in cybersecurity and discussed new challenges for data science in this area.
